A 1% Change Could Help Save 300+ Species!

As Oregonians, you know the wildlife that call this place home are part of what makes our state so special. Whether its nature-based activities like whale watching on the coast, birding in the Klamath, and fishing for salmon in the Rogue River are foundational to this state’s environmental identity. Unfortunately, many of our iconic, native species are in decline due to habitat loss, climate change, and development - pushing them even further towards extinction. We must (and can) do something about it!

Next legislative session, Oregon Wild will be working to pass “1% for Wildlife” - a bill that would provide necessary funding for wildlife and habitat conservation by increasing by the state tourism tax by just 1% (from 1.5% to 2.5%). Oregon would still have one of the lowest tourism taxes in the country and this small change could help stop the extinction of hundreds of species including pollinators, salmon, marten, and frogs!

We're asking all Brewshed partners to sign onto this letter supporting this 1% for Wildlife proposal.

Oregonians Speak Up For Roadless Wildlands

The U.S. Department of Agriculture and Forest Service concluded its comment period last month on the Trump administration’s plan to rescind the landmark Roadless Rule. Hundreds of thousands of people from across the nation, including thousands in Oregon, overwhelmingly pushed back on the administration’s plan, which threatens over 44 million acres of wild, undeveloped forest lands across the US, including nearly 2 million acres in Oregon. Initial analysis of the submitted comments found that opposition to dropping safeguards for Roadless Areas was nearly unanimous, with a over 99% of comments supporting keeping Roadless protections in place.

Thanks to Oregon Brewshed® Alliance members for standing up for our wild places! And special thanks to Worthy Brewing for hosting a comment-writing event in Bend to support the Roadless Rule!

Even though the comment period has ended, there is still time to take action. We have a chance to pass legislation to provide long-lasting protections for these special places so they won't be subject to a president's meddling. Take action now to support these vital landscapes! Please reach out to get more involved in defending roadless wildlands.

Brewshed® Partner of the Month: pFreim Family Brewers

ree

As a long-time Oregon Brewshed® Alliance partner, pFriem Family Brewers continues to out-do themselves when it comes to incredible craft beers and advocating for clean water protections. Their Earth Day IPA, brewed as part of this year's Wild & Scenic Earth Day Collaboration Series, was not only delicious but also generated more than $2,000 to support Oregon Wild's work through the Oregon Brewshed Alliance.

Oregon Wild also participated in pFriem's Octoberfest event in Hood River last month - a great opportunity to reach beer and nature lovers alike! Thanks so much, pFriem!

Brewshed® Brews in the Wild

ree

Earlier this month, Oregon Wild hosted its largest event of the year. With the theme of "Joyful Resistance," this year's Call of the Wild was a celebration of the pro-conservation community and the wild places that inspire and sustain us.

Brewshed partners answered the Call! Breakside Brewery led the way by debuting their new (and absolutely delicious!) Oregon Wild IPA as part of their Beer That Benefits series! The beer was a HUGE hit at the event and it's now available far and wide with a portion of proceeds supporting our conservation work. So go check it out!

Several other Brewshed® partners - like Ruse Brewing, Hopworks Brewery, Fort George Brewery, Cascade Lakes Brewing, Sunriver Brewing, and Schilling Cider - supported the event by generously donating to the auction and bar!

Together, Brewshed® partners helped make this year's Call of the Wild our best yet, with $124,000+ raised to help us protect and defend our forested brewsheds, free-flowing rivers, and native wildlife! Cheers to you all!
