HELP PROTECT MATURE AND OLD-GROWTH FORESTS

The Biden administration and federal agencies are currently advancing policy proposals to protect our old-growth forests. Unfortunately, they are leaving an essential natural climate solution off of the table — meaningful mature forest protections.  Mature forests are the old-growth of the future, we must protect them so they can stand tall to protect future generations - and our brewsheds!

Oregon's mature and old-growth forests are an incredibly important climate solution, rivaling tropical rainforests in terms of the amount of carbon they store per acre - especially in large, old trees. However, these bigger, older trees are still being logged when they should be protected for carbon storage, wildlife habitat, and clean water. When we protect our old forests from logging, we reduce greenhouse gas emissions and ensure these forests continue storing vast amounts of carbon —a win-win climate change solution! In Oregon our intact forests also offer unique and critical habitat for at-risk fish and wildlife, including the marbled murrelet, salmon, and the northern spotted owl. Healthy forests also filter water to keep our streams, rivers, and lakes clean and cold, and these same forests protect watersheds, the water sources for the brewing industry, and communities from flooding and landslides.

BREWSHED® PARTNERS OF THE MONTH!

Worthy Brewing has been a member of the Oregon Brewshed® Alliance since 2016 and has always been a strong voice for conservation in our state. They are a voice for water conservation and other sustainable practices in the brewing industry, and have been vocal supporters of the River Democracy Act to protect more Wild & Scenic Rivers in Oregon.

This year, Worthy is a premier sponsor of Oregon Wild’s 50th Anniversary Series and is hosting a Wild Wednesday event at their East Bend pub tonight! Worthy truly lives by its motto, “Earth First, Beer Second.”

BREWSHED® BREWS IN THE WILD!

This 20-Inch Brown from Cascade Lakes Brewing Company  hit the spot after a day of fishing and exploring the North Santiam River last summer. The North Santiam is just one of many rivers across Oregon that would gain increased protections from passage of the River Democracy Act!

Cascade Lakes is currently helping us advance the River Democracy Act by brewing up a special-release beer for the Wild & Scenic Earth Day Collaboration!

HELP US CELEBRATE OREGON WILD'S 50th ANNIVERSARY

This year, Oregon Wild is celebrating five decades of being a strong voice for our amazing old-growth forests, pristine rivers, and native wildlife! 1.7 million acres of protected Wilderness, 2,200+ miles of Wild & Scenic Rivers safeguarded, and relentlessly defending native wildlife species and critical habitat. There's a lot to celebrate and we have a whole series of events planned to help toast some incredible conservation successes, while building more support moving forward. Get your tickets here! https://oregonwild.org/evergreengala
