June-July 2024 Brewsletter: Rivers one step closer to protection!

A Big Month For Oregon Rivers

Senators Ron Wyden and Jeff Merkley reintroduced the River Democracy Act to protect clean water sources (good news for drinking water and beer brewing!), recreational opportunities, and wildlife habitat. This historic bill proposes expanding Oregon's network of Wild & Scenic Rivers by 3,215 miles and would provide new safeguards for many key watersheds across the state–including the Deschutes, Rogue, Grande Ronde, John Day, Clackamas, McKenzie, and many others. Cheers to that!

This legislation is the result of a groundbreaking grassroots river nomination process, years of vetting, and the work of hundreds of activists and river enthusiasts advocating for their backyard rivers, drinking watersheds, fishing holes, hiking trails, kayak routes, and love of the wildlands and rivers of Oregon. In the course of developing this bill, Senator Wyden received 15,000 river nominations from the public!

Just (S)chilling in the Owyhee...

A cold Schilling cider hit the spot on a recent camping trip on the Owyhee River in southeast Oregon.

Oregon Wild and partners are seeking protections for the wild rivers and canyonlands here under the River Democracy Act and the Protect the Owyhee Canyonlands campaign.
